Can I Bring My Own Ideas to My Newborn Session?

Absolutely! While the majority of your newborn gallery will focus on the timeless portraits you'll want hanging on your walls for years to come, there's always room for a little creativity too. Some families choose to incorporate a favorite book, movie, career, hobby, or meaningful family story into their baby's session. Others simply have a fun idea they can't stop thinking about and and chances are, I already have the perfect props to bring your vision to life. Either way, I'm always excited plan something unique!

If you're looking for an Austin newborn photographer who loves blending timeless portraits with personal touches, I'd love to help bring your ideas to life.

Whether it's the stories you grew up loving, the soundtrack playing during your pregnancy, or a favorite family tradition, these setups can add a meaningful personal touch to your baby's first portraits.

Humorous Zoolander-inspired newborn photo featuring a miniature shopping cart and creative storytelling elements.

Ok, this one really needs an explanation. Dad loved the movie Zoolander and during the session he said he wanted to do something inspired by Derelicte, the fashion design that looked like everyone was homeless. The ideas started flowing, dad went on Amazon and ordered the shopping cart, and I had him come back just so we could create this scene.

Sentimental & Meaningful Newborn Portraits

Some of the most treasured newborn photographs honor the people, memories, and traditions that have helped shape your family's story.

Creative newborn bathtub portrait inspired by baby's home water birth story and personalized family memories.

At her session, Mom was telling us her birth story. He came so fast she had him at home in the bathtub! So of course I had to whip up a scene for this fun one. 🛁 (the bubbles are photoshopped)

Baby’s Name-Inspired

A baby's name often carries special significance, making it a meaningful source of inspiration for newborn portraits that feel both personal and unique.

Her middle name is Soleil (sun in French)

Creative Christmas Vacation-inspired baby portrait featuring festive props inspired by a family's favorite holiday movie.

Ok, technically not a newborn BUT this was too epic to leave out. His name is Clark and his parents are huge fans of National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation. Mom brought the outfit, moose mug and squirrel. I burned the gifts and photoshopped in the burned tree and smoke. One of my all time favorites!

Animal-Inspired Newborn Themes

Sweet, whimsical, and always adorable, animal-inspired setups remain some of the most popular creative newborn ideas.

Got a Crazy Idea? I Want to Hear It!

One of my favorite parts of planning newborn sessions is hearing the stories behind these setups. Maybe you want to honor a beloved grandparent. Maybe you're obsessed with a favorite movie or book. Maybe your baby surprised everyone by arriving in the bathtub. Or maybe you just think a newborn lounging in a spa robe with cucumber slices sounds hilarious. Whatever your inspiration, we'll create a session that feels true to your family, balancing the classic portraits you'll treasure forever with a few images that celebrate the things you love most.

If you have an idea you've never seen before, send it my way. Some of my favorite newborn portraits started with a parent saying: "This might sound a little crazy..." These are often the most memorable ones.
