A Newborn Boy Session (And a Little Chat About Bonnets)

Newborn baby boy wrapped in soft neutral tones during an Austin studio newborn photography session

There’s something about a simple, beautifully styled newborn session that never gets old. Soft textures, warm tones, and a baby who clearly understood he was the moment. This sweet boy gave us the dreamiest variety: cozy wrapped setups, natural posing, and just enough personality peeking through to make every image feel like him. If you’re looking for timeless newborn boy photography ideas, this session is a perfect place to start. You can always see more inspiration like this on my Austin newborn photography homepage or browse the newborn gallery for even more looks.

Now… let’s address the tiny hat in the room. Is it “taboo” to put baby boys in bonnets?

Short answer: absolutely not.

Longer answer: newborn photography leans heavily into texture, softness, and timeless styling … and bonnets photograph beautifully because they frame baby’s face in a way that draws your eye exactly where it should go. Some parents love it, some prefer a more traditionally “boy” look, and both are completely valid. That’s why I always photograph variety, including a few setups with and without a bonnet so you can decide what feels like your baby.

The goal isn’t to fit your baby into a box… (even though yes, sometimes I literally do that and it’s adorable) - it’s to create a gallery that feels natural, elevated, and completely yours. Whether you love soft, classic styling or lean more minimal and modern, we’ll build your session around that.
